We are thrilled to announce that Paul McNeill has joined the A.G. Williams Painting Company team as our new part-time Safety Director. Effective June 17, 2024,Paul brings a wealth of experience and an impressive background in safety management to our organization.
Paul was born in the Bronx and now resides in Tarrytown, New York. His career in in safety began in the 1990s with the U.S. Postal Service, where he developed a solid foundation in workplace safety. His journey continued with theOccupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), where he spent over 11 years. During his tenure at OSHA, Paul gained invaluable experience translating complex federal safety regulations into practical, field-applied safety measures.
As a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Paul’s expertise spans a wide range of safety-related areas, including mock OSHA inspections, safety assessments, and emergency response. His approach is not just about compliance but ensuring that safety measures are seamlessly integrated into daily operations. Paul has a proven track record in implementing effective safety programs, reducing workplace hazards, and developing “Return to Work” programs that save on workers’ compensation premiums.
In his own words, Paul shared, “I have a lot of safety background. I started in safety in the nineties with the post office. My last three or four years were with safety. From the post office, I transferred over to OSHA because that’s like the Olympic team. They make the laws and make the rules.”
One notable example of his proactive approach involves persuading a company to implement proper fall protection measures, significantly reducing the risk of serious injuries. His dedication to safety is evident in his practical solutions and fieldwork.
“I don’t like being behind a desk all day. It drives me crazy. I go to the field, which I like. I like interacting, walking around, documenting what’s going on,” Paul mentioned.
Paul’s vision for safety at A.G. Williams includes upgrading our current safety programs, introducing new fall protection technology, and conducting regular field visits to ensure compliance and safety excellence. He emphasizes the importance of management buy-in and effectively communicating the financial benefits of robust safety measures.
“Management has to buy into how much it costs not to do it. I always ask them… if you just like dollars and cents, open up the OSHA website, plug in any arbitrary injury. See the direct costs and the indirect costs.”
Beyond his technical expertise, Paul is passionate about fieldwork and direct interaction with employees. He believes that safety is not just about following rules but fostering a culture where everyone is committed to a safe working environment.
